Pudsey Congs v Farsley U15
04th July 2010
Today I went down to the Britannia Cricket ground to photograph Pudsey Congs v Farsley U15's. This was my first time shooting cricket and I was really looking forward to shooting a more relaxing sport compared to the frantic nature of football and rugby.
What I thought would be a walk in the park soon turned into a very challenging shoot. I took for granted how easy it would be catching the action, if anything the timing of the shot is more critical in cricket than the other two sports. Also the difficulty obtaining good exposures of the player's white kits in constantly changing lighting conditions was proving too much for my tried an tested TV mode with auto ISO. So for the first time shooting sport I ventured into full manual mode!!! And boy am I glad I did. It took a few overs to get the metering right but once I did I was able to get good consistent exposures despite the changing conditions.
Anyway onto the cricket. Pudsey won convincingly though I'm not too sure of the score. Too much time looking through the viewfinder and not at the scoreboard. (note to self take pic of the board when finished!)
The best of the action can be seen in the Sports gallery.
